NS 9486 at Elkhorn Inn

Oh did I mention the great railfanning without leaving the Elkhorn Inn? This picture was taken from the 2nd floor balcony which features a scanner and ATCS monitor for railfans to let you know when the next train is coming.

The NS Ex-N&W Pocahontas Division features unit coal trains, mixed freights, and intermodal. It is a helper district, so add all the light helper moves back down the mountain to the mix.

Most of the trains are led by high-horsepower units such as the NS9486 a GE C40-9W (Dash 9-40CW) engine.

Over the weekend numerous lease and foreign power units also came by the inn.

There are plenty of other scenic photo spots along "The Pokey" so Railfans will never run out of trains to shoot when staying at the Elkhorn.
